Nathaniel Thayer's will dated Dec.3,1751, proved Jan.14,1752 mentions wife Sarah. To son Nathaniel all lands not hereby given except 5 acres to son Abraham, he to pay my four sons in law and daughters, William Linfield & Sarah, William Cheney & Joanna, Theophilus Curtis & Elizabeth, James Faxon & Relief. To son Josiah, money, to son Caleb, money.

He resided in the house built in 1720 by his father and still standing (1950) off Washington St., near Peach St., known usually as the birth place of his famous descendant General Sylvanus Thayer. Nathaniel Thayer Jr. was elected field driver 1707, constable 1721 but was excused, surveyor of highways 1723,1740,1747.

He was a Revolutionary soldier in 1775, resided where the South Congregational Church is now at Washington & Pond Sts. He died intestate and Isaac Dyer was made administrator Mar.3,1818. The widow's thirds were set off and the rest distributed to the three daughters (N.P.30-278, & 32-338).
He was elected tithingman 1786,1787. Mary Thayer aged 79 is in the 1850 census with her daughter Clarissa Sanborn at Braintree.

After his marriage he removed to Bedford, N.H. where he had bought land in Naraganset #5, (now Bedford) on Apr.8,1750. He also inherited land there by will of Samuel5 (Samuel4-3Shadrach2) Thayer in 1752.
He sold his lands there as did his brother Jonathan Thayer in 1755,1757,1767 (N.H. Provincial Deeds 42-506,52-348,92-548,99-296). He returned to Braintree (Randolph) in 1756 and bought 90 acres and a house and barn, east on a town way (now Lafayette St.), west on Stoughton (now Canton) line etc., Mar.20,1756 (S.D.88-118). Here his descendants mentioned until after 1900. Wm. H. Woodman states that five generations lived here on this lot, Noah, Meshech, Ephraim, Washington, and Miss Harriot Thayer who occupied it in 1900.

He left a will dated Sep.25,1790, proved Dec.31,1790, giving to wife Margaret improvement of all real estate etc., to son Shadrach and four eldest daughters, Margaret, Experience, Michal, and Merib, about 35 acres woodland in Stoughton "bounding on my homeplace as the line runs between the towns". To daughter Leah 10 acres of homeplace. To son Noah, 5 shillings, having given him in full already, by deed. To son Meshech my dwelling house & barn and rest of the homeplace. To son Zachariah Marquand Thayer 3 acres on Moore's Farm river, and if he does not marry and have issue, to go to son Meshech. (S.D. 89-825)

The widow Margaret Thayer left a will dated Sep.10,1792, proved Apr.1,1794, giving to son Noah, son Shadrach, three eldest daughters Margaret Steel, Experience Crane, Michal Capen, to daughter Meribah Littlefield, money, to son Meshach all my oxen, cows, sheep, and swine, etc. To daughter Leah Thayer all indoor movables, to son Zachariah Marquand Thayer, money (N.P. 1-113).

He was elected hogreave 1758, surveyor of highways 1763,69,75,1781 for So. Precinct, constable 1777 & 1778 but excused both years.

He died intestate and Isaac Tower was made administrator Jun.7,1803 and the widow's dower was laid off Nov.6,1803. Distribution was made Jan.1,1805 to Dolly wife of Issachar Everett, Polly wife of Isaac Tower, Sally Thayer, Seekey wife of Isaac Spear, Betsey wife of Elisha Jones, Leah Thayer, Peter Thayer, and Noah Thayer, children (N.P.9-421,10-52,11-155).
Noah Thayer 2nd was elected hogreave 1774,1775.
