He resided on west side of Middle St. just north of Union St., in a house built about 1734, demolished when the street was widened in late 19th century. His will dated Apr.5,1771, proved May 27,1774 mentions wife Lydia to have the homestead and what she brought at marriage and will have by her father's will. Son Isaiah £5 and to be executor.

To five sons Isaiah, James, Gideon, Obadiah & Richard all estate equally except Richard to have the north part of the house, viz, the kitchen, bedroom, buttery with proportionate part of cellar and chamber and blacksmith shop and tools at the death of my wife. To daughters Mary Ludden & Ruth Wild, land. To son in law John Ludden. To daughter Anna Niles £40. To daughter Sarah Thayer £40. To daughter Jerusha Wild £40.

Richard Thayer Jr. was fenceviewer 1716, & Richard Thayer, smith, was fenceviewer 1718, constable 1727 but excused, also 1728, Richard Thayer 2nd was on a committee to divide the town 1729, selectman 1731-1736, also as Sgt. or Lt. Richard 1740,42,44-6, and served on many committees.

He resided in the south part of Randolph, near Brookville region, where Elisha Porter lived in 1857 says Dr. Alden. He died intestate and Simeon Thayer (Jr.) was made administrator May 21,1793, and he gave a quit claim with his wife Olive, as sole heir to the estate to his mother Martha Thayer, May 6,1793 for her dower or thirds. Martha Thayer of Randolph, widow woman, left a will dated Apr.28,1808 in which she mentions her grandsons Elisha and Isaac Thayer, grand daughters Bathsheba and Anjulina who are to share equally the residue. The account of Jun.2,1818 gives a balance due to Olive, Relief, Angelina Thayer, and legal representatives of Bathsheba Thayer.

He was elected hogreave 1759,1763, warden 1770, surveyor of highways 1771,1775-7,1782 for So. Precinct, Lieut. Simeon in 1784, Lieut. Simeon was constable for So. Precinct 1781 but presented his son Simeon in his place who was accepted. Soldier 1759 (Reg. Vol.15).

died Jan.16,1841 a.75 at Boston, at Deer Island (a.74 Wyman's Charlestown)(Jan.13, a.75 "formerly of Quincy (Quincy Patriot).
In 1798 he was living in Boston, also in 1804, in Lynn 1805, Charlestown 1812, was taxed 1806 in Quincy both for himself and for land of William Adams, was taxed in Quincy 1809,1810,1811 as of Charlestown, in 1814 as a resident of Quincy. He built a grist mill in Quincy at the foot of Pond St. about 1806. His will dated at Deer Island Jun.15,1838 mentions wife Elizabeth and the children (not recorded). It is said he also kept a hotel at Charlestown at one time.

He removed to Boston in 1792 states the town record, and in 1798 occupied a dwelling on School St. Court. He died intestate and his estate was insolvent. It was administered by his only son Rev. Ebenezer Thayer of Brooklyn, New York
He was elected surveyor of highways 1787,1788, assessor 1790, on School Committee 1792 but a substitute was chosen later as he had removed to Boston.
