About the Authors
L. Hancock, a consultant to Bell Labs on the COSMOS project, has worked since 1970 for various firms in the computer industry as a programmer, technical writer, and language instructor. He obtained his B.A. and M.A. in English literature from the University of Miami, and did doctoral study in language and literature at NYU.

M. Krieger is a writer and editor specializing in scientific and technical subjects. Formerly a science editor with various publishers and a writer/editor with the publications division of Bell Labs, he is the author of numerous magazine articles and books in both the biological and physical sciences. Interested in computers since 1974, he is co-author of Structured Microprocessor Programming. He obtained his B.A. in history from Wayne University
